Well, I had a bike (not an MB though) swiped when I used to use a cable-lock, so I don't trust those anymore. Anyone with a real sharp bolt-cutter can slice right through it.
What I've been using the last 1+ year for my MB is a Watch Dog U-lock. It's a little heavy to carry around, but it's both strong and inexpensive. I bought it after reading some online ratings.
The bottom line, though, is that if a thief wants your bike bad enough and has the right tools, there's not a lot we can do. I prefer the U-locks because they can't be cut with a hand-powered bolt cutter, but they can be cut through with a hacksaw in about 10-15 minutes. I've heard of some folks doubling-up on locks, using one cable lock and one U-lock, since it takes extra time, not to mention extra tools for the thief.
