looking for info on reverse operation

you could flip the ignition magnet around, that should retard the timing enough to run backward.

another thing would be figuring out how you will start it backward (ie, pull start?, clutch drop?)

No that would make it fire atdc, the rotor would need to be re timed for 15-20 degrees btdc.
 
depends on the model of motor, as some have the 20 degree advancements on both the crank and the flywheel magnet making it go at 0 degrees btdc, if you flip it it'll be at 20 degrees btdc. (again, on some models, or i could be wrong)

Yeah you need to rethink that one, it cant fire @ 0 degrees btdc for one because that is tdc @ 0 and it would never start at slow speed (pedaling) 8 degrees btdc starts getting very hard to start and makes no bottom end at all if you do get it started.
