The laws are usually different for each State for gas powered motorized bikes.
What State are you asking about?

ebikes do not require a drivers license in just about every State with a 20 mph speed limit.

Simply Google your States name and motorized bike and with a bit of research you'll find your answer. That's what I did and no need for a license here in Erie PA. Funny thing is that when I lived in Philly a few years ago I got pulled over and a lil harassed so it depends on your county and state and of course if your dealing with an asshole cop too.

AZ does not require a license, but you have to follow the rules to the letter. Both cops and pedal bike riders hate motorized bikes. The speed limit is 20 mph and it is better if you are well under that. Stay in the bike lane or to the far right. Ride in the right direction. don't ride on the sidewalk or a bike path. If you lost your license because of a DUI, forget about it. There is a pretty strong anti motorized bike lobby here, and irresponsible riding is the main reason for it. Max engine size is 48cc and is strictly enforced. MBs are actually MABs (motor assisted bikes) they are not motorcycles or mopeds.

If your state allows MBs to be ridden without a license, you're in luck. Just make sure you follow ALL the rules.
