Zip-Ties, the riders friend

Hi guys, after much riding, I finally had a breakdown on my Whizzer, well, not exactly a breakdown, but the screw fell out of the rear of the chainguard, and I'm 500 miles from home! ZIP Tie to the rescue, right thru the holes, and BINGO.

Around here, if you're not close enough to town that they could hear you holler, a cell phone won't work.

Tools Carried On Your MB ?

Hello to all MB riders and also to ones -- just looking around

Thought that we could start a new thread in regards to

TOOLS CARRIED ON OUR MOTOR BIKES

I think this could help to remind me - us

of some important tools that I - we should be carrying (ON BOARD OUR MBs)

so as when we brake down on the road to be back up fast and

RIDE THAT THING MOUNTAINMAN !!!

My list of tools carried...

2 metric allen wrench sets

2 screwdrivers

metric wrench set 4mm thru 15mm

zip ties

pliers

tube repair kit

hand towel

adding more as I see the need for it!

Here is my kit in a tool roll from Harbor Freight.

From left to right:

1) 10 feet of rope- got the idea from Large Filipino, you never know when you will have to suspend either end of your bike in the air (great idea Large).

2) Electrical tape- to make it easier to travel, it is wrapped on a 1" wide piece of aluminum- 10 to 12 feet, very compact.

3) Zip ties- long ones, you can make a long one short, doesn't work the other way.

4) Tire gauge, tube patches and valve tool.

5) Tire removal tools.

6) Small slip joint pliers.

7) Small vise grips (any number of uses).

8) Cresent wrench.

9) through 13) Combination wrenches (more sizes, less space), 14-15, 9/16-5/8, 12-13, 10-11, 8-9

Second row- on the belt, not in the roll:

14) Leatherman- don't get a cheap imitation. They are well worth the price and work well. A cheap one will convince you combination tools are worthless. They are not, but the cheap ones are useless.

15) Cell phone

Then you can see where the roll goes- attached with three mini bungees.

Also, in the hollow area at the back of the "tank", a spare tube is bungeed to the frame in there.

Lastly, I have a frame pump mounted to mimic a manual oil pump shown in pic 3.

My List

Cleaning Towels
Air Pump
Metric Socket Set
Philips & Flat Screwdriver
And the reason I posted, the wooden things from Harbor Freight (can't think of the name):
- They come in 4", 6", 8", 10", 12" (I use the 6" for my rear wheel removal)
- It's wood (so does not mess up the paint)
- You crank two wooden parts that have metal screws on metal threaded shafts
- I use it to pry apart the rear frame (to remove my rear wheel)

I just a carry a 10mm hand wrench, small set of allen wrenches, multi-tool, and electrical tape. It all fits nicely into an under the seat case. I only ride a few miles to work, so there is no need for me to carry a tool box. If something happens I can always call my wife to come get me. :D
