ugly problem that hides well

customer been in and out of here a lot last week or so

bunch o' minor things that can make it run a bit weak (it's an old, filthy, bike that got no maintenance ever), but nothing that would strand him every so often as he reported

finally got bad enough to be able to find it - seems CDI worked fine until something inside got hot & it quit - sometimes took 1/2 hour to quit - cooled down, it worked and ran fine on my CDI tester until I let it run on there for 6 or 7 minutes, then saw the spark slowly lose timing then die completely

100 degrees in sun today, otherwise I might not have found it

, it's the same thing that happened to my cell phone it's out in the sun and close to the engine and gets too hot all those Terminals and little things inside they're not made to get hot they're made to be cool so keep them as far away from the engines possible that's all I can think to say

yeah, some kind of short or bad connection inside the CDI - running on my tester in the shop where it is cool, still heated it up after a while till it failed
