Some mistakes in the narration, i.e. the brush-cutter the engine came from was made by Hoffco. Also we found the limit for climbing hills with two people aboard, stalled the belt drive going up a very steep hill. (no quantification on the steepness). I've tried two different front sprockets and the 3:1 final drive works a little better than the 4.8:1. The only compromise is in the first few feet of take-off with two people aboard. Hi all, I recently found out about this awesome world of motorizing bicycles about a month ago. As soon as I saw my first one, I had to try! Here are a few pics of how my first project turned out. Please comment and let me know what you think as this website was a huge help with some of the issues I had to find solutions to during my build. Thanks and look forward to seeing what you think...... plan on building a trike next! C
This is my first motorized bicycle I have a couple scooters I ride so im not new to that sort of thing, and in the past ive owned many types of motorcycles. Figured I would try one of these out. Im sure I got a cheap eninge, and bike. Im only into this under $500 which in the scooter world is a set of front shocks New beach cruiser coming in any day so I wont post pics until it shows, since I had 2 colors to choose from. I did get the engine locally new so I have pics of that. Also a set of brakes and levers too
I've been working on this one for the last month... It's a new & improved Rat Rod Lowrider that I'm building for one of the members of this forum. As many of you know from the 1st Biker Build off contest (on the other forum), it started life as a bone stock Felt El Guapo cruiser... Then I chopped & dropped it! This one's way better than the first! (I learned a lot from the first one.) I'll post more pics as I finish it. If anyones interested in one of these, I build 'em for $2500.
Here's my Felt, 'Rat Rod Lowrider' that I built for a 'Biker Build Off' contest. The contest ended with this bike in a tie for first place! It started life as a stock Felt El Guapo cruiser, then I chopped it up! I did everything myself, including cutting & welding the frame, exaust, in frame gas tank & re-lacing a 26" front wheel for my disc brake set. The engine is offset 9/16" for tire/ chain clearance. These are the before & after pics...
Here's a bike that I just finished for a customer. It's a Electra Rat Fink Chopper. I had to hand make custom steel mounts to off set the engine & also off set the rear sprocket 1/2" for the chain to clear the big 3" wide rear tire. I also welded a hand made bracket for the front disc brake. Big props to my homie Jeff for helping me make the custom exaust pipe!
I finally got it done last week!! I was having trouble with the looks of the rear mounted cylinder tank, so I moved it to the front of the bike. I took it for a ride to Santa Monica beach & back, & it performed perfectly. It's now in the hands of it's new owner... (I really wanted to keep this one!) http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk125/VeniceMotorBikes/Bikes/vmbchopper5.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk125/VeniceMotorBikes/Bikes/vmbchopper6.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk125/VeniceMotorBikes/Bikes/vmbchopper1.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk125/VeniceMotorBikes/Bikes/vmbchopper7.jpg http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk125/VeniceMotorBikes/Bikes/vmbchopper8.jpg
Here's my first attempt at building a boardie. It's a 1955 Schwinn Panther. (It was the Voodoo Chopper on my website, but I wanted to change it! ) The bike is still in the building stage, & there's still lots of work I have to do on it, (like weld the pipe, weld a custom seat post & lace up a front disc brake... ) but I think it will be ready in time for the March 7th beach ride!! Big props to Pat Dolan for the custom made stainless steel tank!! (Your tanks are awesome bro!!)
After reading the post on the attrative sidecar bike, I decided to show a few picts of a three-wheeler I put together this fall. At this point it doesn't have a motor yet. The frame is one made in india which I picked up at a scrap metal yard about ten years ago. The fork is off an english bike which most closely matched the remenants of the original fork. I had to cut down and extend the threads on the steering tube. The left rear wheel is attached tightly to the rear axle. The right rear wheel has hub bearing in addition to the axle bearings. These bearings had desinigrated on this bike and I couldn't find any repacements. The axle diameter is 5/8" I machined new bearing out delrin. I put a wood flatbed on top of the rear basket...
This is my bike i swore i wouldn't motorize it but after much thought and harassment from friends i caved. But instead of going electric or one of them 2 stroke putt putts i chose a predator 79cc 4 stroke. The motor came with a gokart clutch and jackshaft plate but i wasnt happy with the clutch as it was very sluggish and seemed to need to many rpms to get up to a decent speed with my fat ass on the bike. So i upgraded to a comet 30 ctv torque setup with a chain driving the rear wheel. Turns out that because i have a 5 inch rear rim and comet cvt plate only lets you have a drive sprocket fitted on the outside of the plate behind the cvt driver it wouldnt line the chain up with the sprocket on the rear wheel which was installed with one...
I have been luck to find the USA bikes for installs.I replaced all bolts with SAE 1/4" Grade C (8) nuts and allthread. Never had someone come back and say hey I broke a motormount. These are good lil' Runners. I know of one with more miles than my last 2 honda lawn mowers. I match the ports and gasket, bore thesupply needle valve in gas line/carb valve, seal the magneto, make sure the chain dont make no noise, custom fitted the chain guard, alighned brakes.. hey I rode it! Pulled me up my hill..Cool! That'ers the real test they have to pass. Pour a little earl(2 cycle) through the intakeat an angle to hit the crank bearing tdc piston pull spark plug couple drops at an angle. then breakin. Break in (16:1) Let it Idle for 1 min...
Thinking my 4th or 5th build maybe, but thought I would go with an army theme this time... 26" cruiser with BMP kit and 50cc titan.... rock solid and very very powerful with 1" roller on there! Gas tank is inside 50 caliber ammo box on rear... The US Army decals on the bike are the standard cloth issue jacket decals that I glued on the bike, forks, and ammo box This thing is a serious head turner when cruising down the road... thinking of putting it in a parade or show maybe!
