In NY we only get 5 cent and they have to be clean = NOT worth my time taking them back.

we get nothing here unless you smash them and go to the scrap yard. lol
When ya buy soda or water from the store they charge ya an extra 5 cents per can or plastic bottle.
It's up to you to recycle and get your money back. Incentive to recycle. California pays 5 cents or CRV
There are 31 aluminum cans in one pound = $1.69 CRV selling cans by the pound at the recycle yard
Or 5 cents a can x 31= $1.55 feeding a machine one can at a time.
Water or dirt adds weight
At the recycle yard cans can't have water in them or on them. If it's obvious their dirty they won't take them either
Plastic bottles caps need to be removed, They accept the caps
With the $90 I made from recycling the other day It paid for a set of fat tires for my Rad Rover E Bike
It took me about 1 1/2 hrs to go to the recycle yard and back home. I figure that's about $60 per hr.

Get in that habit of crushing every can after ya drink it. Then throw it in a separate trash can out back.
