I just ordered a new engine from California motorbikes and the pre-ported head has a pretty nasty looking gouge in the intake port, should I send it back or can I sand it out without screwing up the port work

Will it make much of a performance difference if i just run it as it is???
I realize itll restrict the fuel mixture flow somewhat but i wonder if it will be enough for a noticeable difference

A casting flaw. As long as it doesn't go too deep should be ok. Sort of a bummer paying a good buck for it and it has quality issues like that.
Defiantly make sure there are no rough bits on the edges of the port openings to break the rings.
I guess with the reports about that outfit, you bought it you got it.
If they will replace it you may as well. I think you have 48 hours to make a quality control complaint.

Let us know what the outcome is.

I decided to just go with it. It was a gift from my wife and ive been out of town working so it sat around at least 2 weeks before I even saw it.
Started the new build this morning and its coming along nicely. 😁

Here's a pic (its a good bit further along now but you'll get the idea
