4hp briggs cruiser project

I miss those old Briggs, I used to work on them with a friend as a kid. He was a real wiz with small engines and we use to pull those old engines out of the junkyard or trash and get them running in no time. I remember the putt putt sound at idle like it was yesterday. Great project you have there, enjoy that bike.

8/21/18 update:

Progress on the bike has been slow. I bought a chain that seems to fit, but i still need to make or buy a chain tensioner. I wish i went with a solid belt drive at this point.

As a side project, one of my neighbors was throwing out this beautiful toro 622 6hp snowblower. When asked what was wrong with it he said it starts up fine, but the auger doesn't turn. Not one to turn down a chance at a free machine, i loaded into my wagon and brought it home. I figured if it beyond repair at least i would get a working 6hp engine and some nice scrap out of it.

Turns out all i needed was a measly belt. I just scored a $500+ snowblower for only 20 bucks!
Good find, maybe your next build............Curt

I love my old briggs. I just wish I had the parts to finish the project. The sound is amazing.

Update 9/29/18:

I took a small hiatus to step away and work on other projects, but I'm just about ready for the next step on the bike build. The most frustrating thing about this was the chain drive. The rear is just a tad too narrow for me. I promised myself that if i was going to progress farther with this build, i would do it right this time. So instead of moving forward, it's time to take a step back. I'm tearing down the bike, removing the rear end and making this a proper looking powerplus (with a few person touches of course)

Update 10/2/18:

So i started dismantling the bike to make a mock up. Essentially what i plan to do is have the shaft of the engine inline with the frame of the bike to provide more space for components, exhaust and foot boards. From there, a pulley centrifugal clutch will run to a right-angle gearbox which lastly run a v belt to a whizzer wheel sheave. The hardest part will be the swing arm construction, but it will be worth it. Here's a few reference pictures.
