1948 J engine on a 1940 Elgin frame

I picked up this bike off of Kijiji from a fellow in New York. Probably paid too much PLUS I had to get it all the way to Vancouver Canada!!

ANYWAY.... when I got it I found out it was not what I thought it was as I didn't do my research and certainly did not ask the smart people on this forum what it was.

Was sort of cool because it came with a lot of little Whizzer extras such as the Hall generator, light and tail light, Whizzer rocket lights, fender bumpers, brass wire retainers.

The lower crossbar had been cut, to accommodate the engine, and badly re-welded (covered up with bondo) and poorly painted over. Since it had been repainted and I was going to be riding her a lot I decided to strip her down and get it all done up right so I would lessen the chance of structural failures. A local bike building legend fixed the frame in several spots and I had her painted. Sent the motor back to Quenton and he restored the engine to better than original (it really runs beautifully) THANK YOU SO MUCH QUENTON!!

Then I started to look for correct Elgin accessories to get as much of the bike as close to correct. I have the chain guard, fenders, rear rack in for painting right now. Still looking for a few parts to complete the Hall light and tail light. Also need a really good brake for the back as the Morrow hub is not cutting it (it jams hard when I try to brake), will try lubing it every time I ride.

I rode it in a toy run with about 5000 other motorcycles and it very popular!! So many pics and questions and smiles!

Great thread on Whizzers!

Fun machine

My 1950 Whizzer Sportsman.....

Current record holder on the "Roller Road", current "Dirt Drag" winner [150 feet @ 40.3 MPH]. Last Dyno run yielded over 70 MPH with almost 10 HP on gasoline. Different clutch ratios used on "Dirt Drags", high speed runs.

Nicknamed "Wheelie Whizzer"

Will easily standup and drop you off the rear, and is automatic clutch belt drive.

Have all the vintage parts to restore to 1950 original, but just having too much fun setting records.

Current motor is a 1999 modified WC-1 motor with a 2005 NE cylinder.
Special camshaft from Raceway Products, Cylinder & valve work by Gerd Lowack. Cylinder porting, valve train modifications, special mushroom lifters, custom .010" copper head gasket, combustion chamber design & rework, exhaust sytem design, automatic clutch upgrade, modifed 26 MM carburetor, etc by Quenton [me].

Have fun,
