need help with first build.

I see this is old thread but thought I'd jump in. I'm a newbie just built my first motoredbike. Just a note I bought a shwinn cruiser then ordered my 80cc kit a 38 tooth sprocket and rear hub adapter. Wasn't crazy about how the motor fit in the frame and hub adapter did not work on rim. Bought a huffy wasn't thrilled with quality wound up finding a 1995 Gary Fisher Tassajara Mountain bike at local thrift for $16 (bike sells for $200-300 used ) motor fits great and frame is solid. Hub adapter doesn't fit center hub on rim to small so using rag joint that came with kit. My advise buy kit first then find bike to fit at least that's I'm gonna do on next build.

Welcome! That's a cool bike. They do make sprocket adapters that are smaller for smaller diameter hubs.

Yeah I know I purchased adapter that fits 1"-1 1/4" hub thinking that work so I'm using rag joint for know and keeping my eyes open for another bike or rims that will work. Just couldn't wait to ride it lol first tank of gas for break-in and it's a ball gave a couple of short wot burst and got just under 30mph . Can't wait till it's broke in then I'll port intake and exhaust and go from there.

Here's the one I got I think it was like $32 including a 38 tooth sprocket and free shipping. I know the rag joint is not the best idea but I take easy on it so it should be good till I upgrade rims

Wait a minute, you should do all this before your first ride. Then you won't have to go back.

Yeah, I like those kind better, with just 3 bolts. I think the one you got are for the coaster brake hubs, you need the 1" size.

This one fits 1 inch to 1 1/4 inch but all the hubs I have don't fit so that's why I'm using rag joint for now. One hub is close enough that I have a friend machine down the adapter slightly to fit right or just find another rim. The rag joint will do for now I can't beat on it no matter which one I use. I am disabled , head neck back and hip injury so slow smooth rides are all I can do. I enjoyed bike riding till last year had knee surgery and pedaling is a b**ch. So added the motor and back on the road.

That's cool, never say never!

I've built a few bikes with the "blown tire" sprocket adapter, my buddy still drives his that way after 5 years.
